Zantac

What Is Zantac?

 

Zantac (Ranitidine is the generic version of Zantac) is an antacid drug that was originally prescribed for severe issues like stomach ulcers or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). 

 

A lesser strength version of Zantac was sold over the counter for heartburn.

 

It is possible that Zantac causes cancer and that is not listed as one of its side effects.  Zantac has been found to have high levels of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and that chemical has been classified by the FDA as a possible human carcinogen.

 

NDMA has been shown to cause the the following cancers:

- Liver Cancer

- Lung Cancer

- Kidney Cancer

- Bladder Cancer

- Pancreatic Cancer

- Esophageal Cancer

 

NDMA has also been shown to cause a reduction of functions in the following organs:

- Reduced Lung Function

- Reduced Liver Function

- Reduced Kidney Function
